A helmet is a life saver, as the law claims that it is the most vital protective gear in the life of a biker. The fun of biking is in the edge of the balance. No matter how seasoned you are, your own or somebody else’s error can cost a human life. Helmet then becomes your guardian angel. In most cases purchasing a helmet becomes a last minute job only before or after purchasing the bike.

If understood adequately, it can become a very technical procedure. People naturally do not really spend enough time and because of uneasy helmets their riding becomes a less-enjoyable experience. This may also be caused by just buying one based on its looks or on the suggestion of the bike dealer.

Following are some specifications which can make biking, a safe fun for you:

1. DOT Certification: The job a helmet is to provide you safety. If it doesn’t ensure so then there is no use of wearing it. D.O.T. (Department of Transportation) provides a certification that you can find on a sticker at the back of your helmet. These helmets are tested in extreme in conditions and conform to all regulations needed to keep you safe.

2. Retention: The helmet should comfortably sit on your head, unless you take it off yourself. The helmet should retain its position on your head when you experience accidental jumps or unexpected bumps. It should not slide off your head particularly when it’s bound to provide you protection.

3. Fit: Retention aspect works only when it fits on your head perfectly. You should be able to move your head aptly, envisioning all angles. The helmet should also be selected with reference to your head shape.

4. Comfort: The physical and mental comfort is a must when choosing a helmet. This needs self-ascertaining and you should try various types before you find your own exclusively suitable piece.

5. Coverage: It refers to the areas that your helmet covers. It means all the regions of your face and head that are protected by it. Trendy ones also provide additional extensions that make it look stylish but it all becomes useless if it not really providing complete coverage to your head, back of neck and forehead.

6. Face-shield: Face-shield is a definite irritation for some bikers but only like the helmet it must also conform to molding certifications that come along it. Covering the face is definitely a motive but not really at the cost of making you feel claustrophobic. Try numerous of them, until you find one equally ventilated.

7. Convenience features: This encompasses a quick-change face-shield and a storage bag when you can carry an extra helmet.

8. Appearance: A wide-range of variety is open in the markets to make you confused easily. Much more complicated looking are more expensive. Multi-colored ones are often much more expensive than single colored helmets.

9. Cost: All these specifications and certifications make such helmets expensive and way much more than the cheaper ones. A good helmet is no less than an insurance policy, beyond its look invest in it enough to remain safe and to keep enjoying biking.

Helmet visor is the perfect safety guard that is available in the market. It is a must have possession that every two wheeler rider must own. It has been observed that most of the available visors get adversely affected by dust particles. The main impact of dust and dirt particles is taken care of by the safety shield. Necessary protection to the face of the rider is affected by this type of protection shield.

Visibility problem can always arise if the face shield becomes too much dirty. The helmet visor should be cleaned regularly if one desires to eliminate the problem related to visibility. There are certain cleaning tips that have to be taken care of. In all possible circumstances it is essential to avoid making use of any type of chemical substances.

Chemical cleaning substances that are used for the purpose of cleaning can greatly affect the mirrored and Iridium safety guards. It is always a wise choice to use make use of warm water in order to thoroughly clean the products. In most cases use of ordinary soap does not pose a great deal of problem.

The only negative influence that soaps can have on safety shields is that they can get blurred. In order to maintain the device is a scratch free state, it is essential to wipe the surface of the visor on a regular basis. By frequent wiping, the faade of the safety equipment can remain scratch free.

It has to be borne in mind that a rough piece of cloth can always scratch the surface to a great extent. Soft cloth such as microfiber cloth can be used to clean the equipment in an effective manner. Even with a soft piece of cloth there is no need to rub too hard as that can also make scratches on the surface.

In most cases small particles of dust always resides between the surface of the visor and the cloth. The particles of dirt that is caught between the surface ends can always impart scratch on the surface of the visors. Under all possible circumstances it is necessary to avoid scratches as it can impart a negative effect on the safety guards.

by Frank Medley

Many who ride motorcycles always wear their helmet. But it’s a rare drive where you don’t see someone who is choosing not to wear a motorcycle helmet. Are they crazy? What are the reasons to wear a helmet?

What are the reasons that someone wouldn’t wear a helmet, a piece of gear designed for protection? Some cannot afford a helmet. Where it isn’t required, others argue they don’t want to, that they like the freedom.

There are also always stories circulating around motorcycle riders or someone who was injured or killed because of their helmet, much like those about seat belts. They therefore argue they’re safer without one.

These tales are exaggerated and perpetuate a false stereotype. Numerous studies have shown that wearing a motorcycle helmet can help to prevent injury and death if a rider is involved in a crash.

If you love to ride, you’ve probably heard of the idea that all motorcyclists have either been in an accident, or will be. Motorcycles are notoriously prone to certain types of road issues and accidents.

These accidents, even small ones, can be made drastically worse if you are not wearing a motorcycle helmet for every ride. They are made specifically to protect the head and neck of riders.

Always remember to never buy a helmet used. If the helmet has been dropped or struck in an accident, it won’t protect you, in the same way a bumper loses integrity after a crash. And you can often not tell if it has lost that integrity.

For those riders that still choose not to wear a motorcycle helmet, they may be in for a surprise. Many areas require motorcyclists and their passengers to wear them, and you can be ticketed and fined for failing to comply.

If you need to buy a motorcycle helmet, you may be shocked by how expensive they can be, with some nice helmets costing up to 400 dollars. With prices like those, should you buy a used motorcycle helmet?

You should never buy a used motorcycle helmet. When you’re riding your motorcycle, your helmet is one of the most important safety features that you have. This is why almost every state requires that one be worn.

If you decide to buy a used motorcycle helmet, you are in effect putting your life in danger. You should never under any circumstances buy a used motorcycle helmet for a few reasons.

One of the major reasons is that you have no idea if the used motorcycle helmet has ever been damaged. A helmet is designed to only withstand one impact. After one impact, its internal shock absorbers are rendered worthless.

You may be thinking that you would be able to tell if the helmet had been dropped or in a crash, but this isn’t true. Many helmets are scratch and dent resistant. Just because a helmet looks safe doesn’t mean it is.

A separate issue is the age of the helmet. Even if it has never been dropped or damaged, its shock absorbing layer, made of expanded polystyrene, will break down over time. This means you will not be adequately protected.

You can also never know if a used motorcycle helmet has been left in the sun, or too close to a gas tank. These can both lead to breakdowns of the helmets lining, which you cannot see.

It is never a good idea to buy a used motorcycle helmet. Any older helmet can have a variety of problems with it, all of which lead to problems in safety. You are therefore putting your health at risk.

Do you know if your motorcycle helmet will protect you in the event of a crash? Most people probably believe that theirs will, especially if they’ve bought an expensive high tech helmet.

There is a question about what is the best type of helmet material to protect you in a crash. For most of us, the first answer would be a strong motorcycle helmet, to prevent breakage or injury.

However, this may not be the case. A strong motorcycle helmet can be too stiff, which will actually be unable to prevent brain injury during the most common types of accidents.

So I should get a soft helmet then, you might be thinking. This is also not quite the case. A soft helmet will be unable to fully protect you if you’re in a violent crash. This still leaves the question open.

You wear a helmet in order to prevent brain injury. When you’re a collision, there is a likely hood that your brain will slam against your skull, causing damage. A good helmet will try to prevent or lessen this.

Your helmet is made of two separate parts to try to prevent this from happening. A hard outer shell, and several layers of shock absorbers. The outer shell is designed to prevent the shock absorbing layers from being breeched.

You can still buy a strong motorcycle helmet and be protected. You must simply insure that you buy a helmet that give you the right balance of strength protection, and shock absorption.

If it’s time for you to buy a new strong motorcycle helmet, you should do your research. Any helmet which meets Snell or DOT standards will meet certain levels of protection, and internet research can tell you more.

If you are a biker, you’re sure to know everything there is to know about your favorite bikes. But are you just as into your gear. For a real enthusiast, gear is very important. Look your best with a safe motorcycle helmet.

Wearing a safe motorcycle helmet is a good idea for many different reasons. But one of the most important reasons is that it’s against the law to ride without one almost everywhere. So to avoid a fine or ticket, wear your helmet!

Another good reason to invest in a safe motorcycle helmet is for protection. Studies have shown that without a helmet, a motorcyclist involved in a crash is likely to be severely or critically hurt because of head trauma.

You may have heard that only uncool old fogies wear helmets and that real riders take their chances. This couldn’t be further from the truth. A real rider is one with the wisdom and experience to know what protection is needed.

And with the new designs out today, a safe motorcycle helmet can also be a great fashion statement. If you’re interested in reducing glare and protecting your face from rocks and insects, you’ll feel like speed racer in a full face helmet.

If you want the world to be able to see your handsome face, try an open face helmet. These are great for allowing peripheral vision, while still protecting you in the event of a crash. And they let you feel the wind whipping in your face.

There are also many great helmet materials that will keep you looking sharp. If you’re trying to stand out, check out the cool new safe motorcycle helmets in metallic colors. There are also helmets with a variety of graphics.

If you love to ride your motorcycle, and want to be safe while you’re doing it, invest in a safe motorcycle helmet. You’ll be looking sharp as you coast down back roads, and you’ll have peace of mind while you ride.

When you’re looking for a motorcycle helmet, there are many different options and features for you to choose from. Some of the most important are related to convenience and to comfort.

You can have many awesome add-ons as cool motorcycle helmet features. One really convenient feature if to have a quick change shield mechanism. This will mean you can quickly and easily change your shield.

To keep an extra helmet in case you have a passenger, you can buy a motorcycle helmet storage bag. These bags attach to your bike, keeping the helmet there when you need it, and protecting it when you don’t.

Many motorcycle helmet features are designed to deal with small irritations. If you are annoyed by the extra length of your chin strap flapping in the wind, find a helmet that has a built in strap guard.

If you live somewhere humid or hot, a helmet that has removable padding is a big plus. If your padding starts to get stale, you can remove it and wash it, which will leave it fresh smelling and comfortable again.

If you are vain about your helmet, a wonderful motorcycle helmet feature for you is a scratch resistant shell. This will prevent small scratches to your helmet, and leave it looking shiny and new.

If you have a shield that tends to fog from the inside, you may want to look for a new helmet with vents. Beware however that vents can lead to a louder ride, and do protrude a bit from the helmet.

When it’s time to buy a new helmet, make sure you buy one with all of the motorcycle helmet features that you may need. A comfortable helmet will be one that you want to wear.
