The Thrill Of Buying Buying Your First Motorcycle Made Easy
Posted by Ethan B. Chuong on September 22, 2010
Every person who wants to ride motorcycles can find the right one for them. It does not matter what the sex, age, size, shape, and level (or lack of) of expertise of someone is because there will always be one available to them. If you are trying to find the right one, there are things you should consider. Here is some data on what to look for when selecting your first motorcycle.
Most people, regardless the product (in this case a motorcycle), always look at cost first and for good reason. You need to evaluate what price range you are willing and able to bear. This will considerably help you narrow down the pool of available models, which are very plentiful. For instance, models that cost more tend to have more and power and are heavier, so if you are someone that is on a budget, these types of motorcycles do not need to be looked into.
The type of engine you want should also be considered. An engine that is labeled as two hundred and fifty cubic centimeters or below is considered a smaller and lighter bike. Engines between two hundred and fifty and six hundred and fifty are mid range models. Between six hundred and fifty and eleven hundred are larger scale motorcycles. Last, anything labeled as twelve hundred and above are top of the line models meant for experienced riders.
Prior to ever buying any type of vehicle, a test drive should be conducted. This way, you can feel first hand what it feels like to ride motorcycles with different levels of power and of different sizes and weight. It will also give you a chance to hear how much noise each model makes, see how everything functions, and test the brakes and gears.
While taking a test drive, it is very advantageous to take someone with you that is knowledgeable about motorcycles. They can guide you with both the riding and buying process. They’re also useful to take to dealerships because they’ll have a better idea of what you are searching in a bike than a salesperson.
Many people choose to buy their first motorcycle in used condition instead of new. If you are considering this, particular things should be looked at. For instance, check for rust. Bikes can develop rust over time, so an older used model might have it. If rust is present, it is important to note if it can be treated because otherwise it can lead to structural problems on the bike.
Also if buying used, look at the levers and pedals. They must be in good condition and not have any cracks or bends. Check to make sure they are still firmly attached because if not, they can make riding very dangerous. Also, make sure all the electrical aspects, such as the lights, all work properly.
That was some information on what to look for when choosing your first motorcycle. Several factors can help you determine how to find the right one. Starting with price and then moving on to actually experiencing a test drive is a great place to begin.
