Six Steps To Make Sure Your Car Is Running Optimally
Posted by Charlie Hernandez on June 11, 2010
Step 1
Change your oil regularly. If you don’t change your oil often enough your car will start to lose valuable lubrication and result is damage to your engine and eventually your car breaking down. Changing your oil every five thousand miles should suffice. Motor oils have improved in quality and the age old three thousand change is no longer the stigma.
Step 2
Replace your tires on your car when threading disappears. Your tires will gradually start to wear out and lose tread the more you drive. Driving on “bald” tires can cause you to hydroplane and can even cause you to wear out your rotors which are insanely expensive to replace than tires. Be sure to extend your tire life by rotating them. Depending on your vehicle you should change out the tires before all the threading is totally depleted.
Step 3
Drive responsibly. Street-racing won’t just wear out your tires in a hurry, it will also take quite an expensive toll on your brake pads and rotors. Also, not being careful and hitting curbs with your car can easily throw off your alignment. Slamming the brakes last minute will wear you brake pads down, so be sure to keep a safe distance and brake easily.
Step 4
Check your power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluids regularly. Don’t wait till your next oil change to get them check out. Replace them yourself if you need to. check your user manual if you are not sure what goes where. It is a fairly simple process and can save your car a lot of wear and tear.
Step 5
Keep a safe distance from other vehicles. A Small rock thrown from the back seat of a tractor trailer at a million miles an hour can crack your windshield. Don’t ride the draft. If you hear a rock hit your but don’t see a crack, get it checked out, there could be a small crack that will slowly make its way all over the windshield.
Also riding behind cars will get you in an accident sooner or later. It might not happen today or tomorrow, but it is inevitable if you trail. Its too risky to take the chance. Car accidents are the main factor in deterioration of a cars life.
Step 6
Get a Tune up! Check your cars maintenance manual for how often the vehicle needs to be tuned up and follow that guide to the T. Regular tune ups can help keep your car healthy for a longer span of time. This can save you a lot of frustration and give your car some expanded driving time.
