If you have been considering taking off on the open road, or even off the beaten path for a camping trip on your bike, then perhaps there is a motorcycle accessory or two that you may want to consider taking along. It can be difficult trying to decide exactly what you need with the limited space that you have available in which to store things. The organizing and packing are very important, especially if you plan on using just the motorcycle saddlebags. If so, then it is that much more important to take only what is necessary.
Should you be wanting to add additional motorcycle accessories to your bike, like a luggage rack, then that will certainly grant you the freedom to incorporate additional items. The same is true if you are going to pull a trailer. Of course this will give you more room, but you’ll still need to be careful as there are various things you will want to be alert to if you have a trailer. Make sure to purchase the lightest possible model that is compatible with your bike. It requires about 30 minutes to put in the hitch under the bike’s rear fender, however, care should be taken to make sure that it will not interfere with the operation of the bike.
Try making a list of the gear or different items that you may need to bring with your first. For example, one very important motorcycle accessory that you may need if you are going to be sleeping outside is a tent, as well as some kind of ground cover, a sleeping bag and other related camping gear. This can be very helpful when you are trying to figure out if all the space you will need can be handled by the saddlebags alone or if you may need to add a luggage rack or tow a trailer. Perhaps you may want to consider having larger, custom motorcycle saddlebags made.
There will be other things which you will want to look at and it is certainly advisable to own motorcycle cover in the event of bad weather when you are camping. If you’re taking a long trip, then you may want to take along snacks and water for the ride in case you stop someplace and do not want to have to unpack everything, or in case you will be in an out of the way region without roadside diners. Additionally, a motorcycle tire repair kit is always a good item to keep handy.
A first aid kit is another motorcycle accessory that is good to have at any time but it can be even more useful when you are camping and not close to any medical facilities. Other gear that you may want to consider taking on a camping trip include cooking utensils and a pocketknife if you are going to be cooking your own food. It is also a good idea to include motorcycle covers in case of inclement weather.
