Hogs 4 Hokies 2009 Ride to Virginia Tech

Well over 100 motorcyclists rode in the annual event raising over 10,000 dollars for scholarships at VT. The scholarship fund is called the 32 Named Endowment Fund and provides scholarships to VT students in the names of the 32 fallen victims of April 16th, 2007. This years ride was from Manassas VA to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
At 9am. we pulled out of the Manassas Mall parking lot after registering at the Hooters nearby. There were a variety of bikes, with Harleys predominating the procession.
We rode to Charlottesville where we were joined by a police escort and met up with additional riders. We formed up and rode in parade formation to Shenandoah Harley-Davidson, 213 Rolling Thunder Lane in Staunton, VA. The dealership provided lunch and discount coupons where the discount could be credited to the 32 Named Endowment Fund.
With a police escort, Frank Salzano (a VT alumnus and event organizer) led the motorcade of bikes on his maroon and orange Harley that was carrying a large Virginia Tech flag on the back. Deacon Mike Ellerbrock blessed each of the riders as they rolled past him, on both sides. The group gathered on the drill field, at the memorial site, for a short ceremony and presentation of the check to the 32 Named Endowments Fund.
Frank had this to say, Lets remember always the 32 lost, 17 injured, and countless other innocent victims affected forever.
