Best Auto Prices, Auction, Classified or Dealer?
Posted by Larry Blake on May 26, 2009
Buying your dream car can be an exciting but daunting task. There are literally thousands of sources you can check to find used cars: local newspapers, private seller ads, franchised local car dealers, independent dealers, Internet classifieds, rental car agencies, weekly auto classifieds, leasing companies, corporate liquidations, Government auctions, police impounds, charities and more. The sheer number of places to buy a vehicle can be overwhelming and most people don’t even shop outside of one or two types of sources. Why fish in a small pond when you can cast a wide net in a deep sea ?
Those are a lot of vehicles and a lot of sellers to check out. The only way to know you did your best to find the best bargain is to check all these sources. If you don’t, you’ll risk paying too much for your vehicle. For instance, if you read only newspaper auto classifieds or visit just a few local car dealers, your search will be limited in number and you might miss out on the best bargains. Don’t worry, gov-auction.org helps you build a personal buying plan and gives you the tools for sorting through the data quickly and efficiently. They provide information on almost 1 million vehicles from newspapers, dealers, private sellers, Internet classifieds, public auctions and more. Does any other company do this for its members ? None that I know of !
Do you know of any other place you can get all this information and assistance? You have a couple of choices right off the bat, you can just plow ahead with your search or you can develop a plan based on some personal preferences. A plan should include some of the following questions. How far from home, would you drive to get a great deal on a car? Do you already have a particular car with special features in mind that you cannot do without.
Your answers to these questions will help you decide whether auto Auctions or other sources are best for your needs. Here’s a short table outlining some of the pluses and minuses of each type of source. Comparing Vehicle Buying Sources (***** is Best) Convenience Price Time to Buy Warranty Selection Government Auctions ** ***** ** None ** US Marshall Auctions ** ***** ** None ** US Customs Auctions ** ***** ** None ** US Treasury Auctions ** ***** ** None ** IRS Auctions ** ***** ** None ** Private Party Vehicles ** *** ***** None *** Newspaper Auto Classifieds *** *** ***** None ***** Rental Car Sales *** *** **** Maybe *** Local Car Dealers vehicles ***** * ***** Optional *****
Car dealers in your local will offer the most convenience and service but at a high price. Once you go through our vehicle inspection list you will reduce your risks, however you might have to drive a little ways to a car auction. At times, this will be beneficial to you as the turnout maybe small and therefore the competing bids will not be as high or as many. Access some of the past auction results to get a better perspective. Prices at an auto auction will usually be less than blue book and will assuredly be lower than a local dealer will. Any way you slice it you will find better bargains going through an auto auction as long as you have research time and have no preconceived notions on the particular vehicle you want.
